Inner City Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet”
The pandemic couldn’t prevent ICS inspiring gangland LA’s youths with the magic of Shakespeare.
The wonderful work of Inner City Shakespeare was instantly threatened by the pandemic. Youths who adored the chance to immerse themselves in Shakespeare's Verona were suddenly faced with separation and isolation – on top of their usual daily struggles in city streets rife with gang violence. But, inspired by British efforts to produce theatre via Zoom, the ICS team pulled out all the stops to ensure the show could go on – including costumes and backdrops, and supported with studio space by Val Kilmer. And the unexpected bonus? Everyone worldwide can now enjoy this fabulous production!
